Two major global sporting events are coming to Los Angeles!
Hosting major global sporting events often serve as catalysts for technological advancements, driving innovation and the adoption of new technologies across multiple sectors in the host city.In 1992 Barcelona used the Olympic Games to fast-track an existing masterplan that revitalized its port, manufacturing, working-class zones, and rebranded the city as a top tourist destination and center of sports and entertainment. Rio de Janeiro implemented an Integrated Command and Control Center for the hosting of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Key technology impacts can include smart infrastructure, advanced transportation systems, telecommunications and connectivity, sustainability technologies, and advanced security systems. Advanced virtual and augmented reality solutions can be used to enhance the spectator experience. Data analytics and AI will be used to aid with crowd management, athlete performance tracking, and further enhancing the spectator experience.
The 2024 Innovate@UCLA Summer Solstice will explore the vast possibilities for mutual impact between technology and major sporting events.
