Spotlight On: Howard Miller

Our members fuel the community that Innovate@UCLA has established. Howard Miller, currently serving as our Membership Vice Chair, strengthens that network by connecting our members and the vibrant UCLA community through passion for technology.

Howard has over three decades of experience in Information Technology in a variety of industries, including academia, life sciences and pharmaceuticals.

He is currently the CIO at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, where he’s been since 2019. Howard has been able to retire technical debt, improve the school’s cybersecurity posture, and deliver innovative solutions in support of the school’s strategy and academic mission, for faculty, staff and students.

Howard’s leadership extends beyond UCLA. He is also the Vice Chair for the SoCal chapter of SIM and on the Ally Council for WLDA, a global leadership organization committed to shaping a fair digital world by advancing women leaders who impact the future of data and AI with parity and equity.

As a 2X CIO Award winner who holds several IT certifications, including PMP, CRISC and CISM, Howard’s impact has been recognized across several industries. In addition to his efforts at UCLA, he is an Associate Faculty member at Educause working with the Procurement in Higher Education course.

“I’ve learned about myself and my career since making the transition to higher education/academia. I deliver the technology that ultimately shapes our future leaders and there’s a lot of responsibility that accompanies that deliverable. I’m a true believer in the power of networking, that business relationships really matter, and building high-performing teams via authenticity, vulnerability and trust. All of these are principles that carry over to my board and service work as well.”

As a leader in several technology groups across industries, Howard has shaped the way to Innovate@UCLA’s membership network. We greatly admire his authenticity and passion for bridging Academia and leadership through innovative technology.
